3 Common Reasons Why Your Garage Door May Not Be Functioning Properly

Construction & Contractors Blog

If your garage door won't close, there could be many different reasons for the malfunction. There are some issues that you can address on your own and others that you will need to hire a repair technician to repair for you. The following guide walks you through a few malfunctions that may be to blame for your inoperable garage door.

Misaligned Sensors

There are sensors located at the bottom of the frame of your garage door that need to be aligned so that a laser can be sent from one to another to let the opener know that there is nothing blocking the door from closing fully. If the sensors are hit or turned slightly, the door will not shut. Check to make sure that the sensors are aligned and that nothing is blocking the laser from being sent from one sensor to the other sensor.

Door Off Track

There are rollers attached to the garage door that allow the door to move along a track. If the rollers become loose or worn, they can come off the track and prevent the door from opening or closing. Look at the rollers on the door closely to be sure that there are none off of the track. If rollers have come off of the track, you may be able to lift and push them back onto the track, if they are located near the ends. If a roller near the center of the track has come loose, you will need a professional to get the roller back on track, because all of the rollers may need to be realigned to make the roller go back onto the track properly.

Damaged Opener Motor

During a storm, the motor to the garage door opener could be struck by lightning without you even knowing it. If you try to operate the garage door opener and nothing happens when you push the button to open the door, check your circuit breaker box to see if the circuit breaker has been flipped. If the circuit breaker has not been flipped and the motor does not operate at all, a technician will need to inspect the motor to determine if it can be repaired or needs to be replaced.

If you did a visual inspection of your garage door and could not determine what is causing your garage door to malfunction, hire a technician to come to your home to inspect the door for you. If you're looking for a garage door specialist in your local area, visit Dependable Overhead Doors.

 Pool Care Perfection

Before you decide on adding a pool to your backyard, you need to decide how you’re going to take care of the pool once it’s in. This is a very important part of the pool addition process, because you’re going to spend a lot more time on the upkeep of the pool than on the installation, and it’s important to have a plan in place. After years of pool ownership, I’ve learned a lot about how to take care of a pool, what you can do yourself, and what to leave to the pool professionals. I started this blog to help others learn what they need to know about pool care and maintenance. Take a deep breath and dive right in!
